DISCRIMINOLOGY RATING
Measuring Equitable Access to Excellence in Public Education

The Discriminology rating is the first & only universal measure of equitable access to excellence in public education. Built on top of key metrics from the educational data collected by the Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights, we have created a common language in identifying districts where students of color are underrepresented in the positive aspects of school life & overrepresented in the negative.

HARD NUMBERS
Our existing system is fundamentally broken
Discipline Policies

From the data available, we know that Black students are disproportionately suspended, expelled, and referred to the Juvenile Justice.

Gifted & Talented

High-performing Black students are severely underrepresented in gifted-and-talented programs compared to their white classmates.

Disability Labels

The overrepresentation of African Americans in special education is a civil rights violation and a major contributor to the "school to prison pipeline."

*These numbers are from our Sarasota, FL Educational Equity Report Card for the 2011-2012 academic year. All data is sourced directly from the U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights (OCR). Ratios like these are not unique to this school district. Rather, they reflect a much larger trend that currently exist in the American public education system.
